Dennis Petras

Dennis Petras is the Director of Operations & Maintenance and Project Support program areas within the Facilities Design & Construction Division (FDC) of the Texas Facilities Commission (TFC). Dennis was previously the Building Program Manager for the TXDPS program administered by TFC and has considerable engineering and management experience within the private and public sectors.

Dennis manages an Operations & Maintenance staff whose responsibility is to ensure the proper operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire alarm and suppression, and building automation controls systems along with general and preventative maintenance for approximately 26 million square feet of space including parking garages. Dennis additionally manages the Project Support staff which is a team of design professionals charged with in house design of various architectural and engineering projects requested by various state agencies in providing the necessary space functionality to support their programs. This program area is also charged with overall energy conservation efforts to reduce the State's consumption and comply with mandated strategies.

Dennis graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1973. He joined TFC from the private sector serving as Vice President of Land Acquisition and Development for Beazer Homes in Houston. He has worked with Carter & Burgess as the civil design leader for several WalMart Distribution Centers across the U.S. as well as the Project and Environmental Engineer for the multi-use Barton Creek project and as Assistant Director of Engineering for the Public Utility Commission.
