Richard Ehlert is the Director of Procurement for the Texas Facilities Commission. In addition to agency specific procurements, Richard also oversees the solicitation and award of architectural and construction projects managed by TFC for numerous other state agencies, including the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
Richard has over 27 years of procurement experience, 17 of those as a Senior Buyer/Sourcing Specialist for Eaton Semiconductor and Site Procurement Director for Cypress Semiconductor Fab2 in Round Rock, Texas. Richard began his career with the State of Texas at Austin State Hospital (MHMR) in November 2001 as a Contract Procurement Specialist, and transitioned to the Texas Building & Procurement Commission (TBPC) in April of 2005 as a Purchaser V. Richard was appointed Procurement Manager and HUB Coordinator of the agency in September 2005, and continued as such until he was made Procurement Director of Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) in September 2009.
Richard also teaches the State of Texas Advanced Public Purchasing (APP) class through the Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA) Texas Procurement and Supports Services (TPASS) statewide procurement division. This class is required by all state of Texas purchasers pursuing certification and long term procurement employment with the state.
Richard attended the University of Texas at Austin studying piano in the Applied Arts Program, and was a featured artist at the James Dick International Music Foundation Festival in Round Top, Texas. Richard is a native Austinite and has three dogs, Sophie, Barkus, and Reba Las Vegas.
